VOLUNTEER |
As a subsidiary of the Bowers Museum, the Kidseum offers an interactive
cultural arts experience for the younger spectrum of museum patrons that
differs from the typical childhood museum visit. Among the numerous
experiences we offer, the Afterschool Program for neighborhood students
5 to 13 years of age is where we are in greatest need of volunteers currently.
These students participate in our program to receive tutoring for enhancement
of their skills and abilities, assistance in homework completion and
art instruction. Additionally, students are encouraged in general life skills,
as well as, in developing bonds with their fellow students. The Afterschool
Program hours are 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday with
volunteers beginning their shifts at 2:00 p.m. Volunteers will be assisting
the students with their homework, providing one on one support, mentoring,
facilitating art projects, and more.
On the first Sunday of each month, Target Stores, Inc. sponsors free
admission for all Bowers Museum and Bowers Kidseum patrons. Also,
on those days, the Nicholas Endowment sponsors cultural festivals that
celebrate the rich and varied contributions of many nations and civilizations.
For example, on March 1, 2009 the Bowers Museum hosted an
Italian Festival; and, on April 5, 2009 we will host a Japanese Festival -
complete with food, entertainment and fun! Volunteers working the festival
are on site from 11:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. helping run art projects,
providing patron services, serving food, and more.
