INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Thank you for your interest in joining the Bowers Museum’s
Internship Program! Our goal is to collaborate with talented
students from our neighboring colleges and universities in securing
a brighter future through invaluable hands-on academic
experience. The Bowers Museum offers an array of year round
internship opportunities for students of all disciplines. Refer to
the listing below for a list of departments.
• CURATORIAL DIVISION:
The Curatorial Department encompasses the Registrar's, Collections, and Curatorial Department.
Interns in this division generally have the opportunity to work with the Director of Registration
and Curator of Exhibits. Interns may assist with art object and archival record keeping, preparation
for installation/de-installation of special exhibits, conduct research on permanent collections and
upcoming exhibitions.
• PUBLIC RELATIONS/MARKETING:
Interns in the Public Relations and Marketing Department work with the Director of Public Relation
and Director of Marketing. Responsibilities may include: supporting the departments in promoting
general exposure of the Museum's current and future exhibitions, as well as special events and
programs. Duties may include; archiving media coverage, facilitating with production of press
releases and publicity/advertising materials.
• EDUCATION:
Working under the supervision of one of the Museum's professional staff, interns contribute to timely
projects, gain insight into the functions of individual departments, and learn about the Museum's various
collections, exhibitions, and programs for visitors. Responsibilities may include: communicating
with schools
• KIDSEUM:
Kidseum offers children the opportunity to experience and celebrate the beauty, ceremony and history
of many different cultures through hands-on interaction. Interns who are interested in pursuing a teaching
career (particularly in Early Childhood Education) will benefit greatly from the experience. Interns
facilitate with hands-on classroom instruction, art history research and application, tutoring, preparing
teaching materials, participating in art-labs, and collaborate with children, staff and parents. Interns
may also facilitate with the Museum's cultural events and family festivals.
• MEMBERSHIP:
The Bells assist the Membership office with a variety of tasks including preparing and mailing
correspondence to Members. The Bells also play an integral role in assisting the Membership/
Visitor Services Desk and sere as hostesses at special events and Members' receptions.
All internships are non-paid, unless otherwise noted. To apply for an internship, students must complete
the Internship Application, submit a resume, along with approval from their academic institution
and submit it to Human Resources. Due to the unique nature of each department, qualifications,
responsibilities and duration of program may vary. Students are encouraged to conduct all responsibilities
in a safe manner according to regulations (OSHA, etc.,). For a complete description of museum
